On Sunday, April 30th, our Chancel Choir, along with the Virginia Symphony will be presenting a new work by composer Michael Trotta: The “Seven Last Words”. Dr. Trotta is the former Choral Director at Virginia Wesleyan College, and now resides in New York City where he works full time as a composer, conductor, and clinician working with choirs throughout the country. This will be the regional premiere performance of this deeply moving and powerful piece, and will feature soprano Megan Pachecano, a chorus member of the Metropolitan Opera in NYC, and baritone Exavier Artis.

The “Seven Last Words” are a set of texts that have their origins in the Bible, and are often used in liturgical services during Holy Week. This piece by Dr. Trotta has been described as a cross between John Rutter and John Williams, with a nod to Mendelssohn; the melodies are both haunting and lyrical, and the orchestration is extremely colorful. The piece will receive its Carnegie Hall debut in late May.

This is one you don’t want to miss, so mark your calendars!

  • 8:45 a.m. – Worship Service

Our “early” service is a mildly abbreviated form of our 11:00 worship, but contains all the traditional elements of worship, with prayers, praise and singing.  This service is held in our newly consecrated Gwinn Chapel, located on Larchmont Crescent.

    9:45 a.m. – Emergent Worship Service

This service, held in the newly renovated Fellowship Hall, is Post-Contemporary and modern in musical style.  It brings together secular culture and the sacred to provide a vibrant, ever-changing, and always contextually relevant experience.  Be prepared to move.  All ages are welcome.

    11:00 a.m. – Worship Service

This traditional service features traditional liturgy, a message, and the music of our chancel choir and organ.

Communion is offered one Sunday a month.  The Lord’s Table is open to any and all; membership in the church is NOT required to receive communion.

Bible Verse of the Day

“For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.” — 1 Peter 1:18-19 Listen to chapter Copyright © 1973, 1978, 1984, 2011 by Biblica.
