Life at Larchmont United Methodist Church |
|
Life at LUMC revolves around family, and we define family very broadly. Our definition includes folks who have been members for decades as well as those who entered our doors only just yesterday. In fact, some of our most active participants are Navy families who will only be with us for a few years during a Norfolk assignment. Others are from the Old Dominion University community, either students or faculty and staff. Family may mean a household of one or two, or may mean a multi-generational home. At our core are approximately 200 households who actively support the church in a multitude of ways but many other families are involved in the life of LUMC. Our overall membership is getting younger every year. |

Families with Special Needs Children Blog |
|
LUMC counts among its families several dealing with Asperger's Syndrome. In an effort to show our support of their struggles, one member will be blogging here about experiences with this disorder. Asperger's Syndrome is a disorder within the spectrum of autism. Sometimes described as a milder variant of autism, those affected struggle with social interaction, and often exhibit repetitive behaviors. Cognitive development usually progresses, but verbal skills and language habits may appear unusual to an outside observer. |

The attached pdf includes updates on the progress of many of these ministry initiatives. Some of the initiatives like the prayer shawl ministry are already up and running while many others like the new men's fellowship, weekday women's bible study and ministry moments during the 11am worship service are ready to kick off with the new year.

[eLight] Christmas Angels
The Youth Fellowship Angel Tree will be appearing next week in the Monroe Hallway. Again, our efforts to help in our community will be related to FOR KIDS Inc. Why do we choose them? One reason is that they are right in our neighborhood but their help is far reaching. They assist families all over the city. Right now there are about 400 children in their programs. Another

The Youth Fellowship would like to express thanks for the generosity of church members for our Thanksgiving Food Drive. We were able to collect 50 bags of food for families in need.
