UMYF

LUMC's UMYF (United Methodist Youth Fellowship) is a program for youth in grades 6-12. Youth meetings are held every Sunday with the exception of some of the major holidays. There is a lunch meal followed by an activity. All ages meet together in a large group setting. The purpose of this group is to provide teenagers with a comfortable place for Christian fellowship.

Emphasis is placed on service projects for the church and the community. The largest project that the LUMC youth supports  is Park Place Soup Kitchen. There are a variety of fun outings during the year as well. We often go to movies, miniature golf, and have fellowship in member's homes. The group currently consists of youth from several different settings. We have members who attend public and private schools as well as some who are home-schooled.  We are always looking for new members and welcome any youth in the appropriate grades to our group. You do not have to be a member of the church to attend youth activities.

Youth Sunday School

The Middle School Sunday School class ( 6th - 8th grade) meets weekly and covers a variety of topics such as current events and discussions of our faith in relation to modern issues. There are always doughnuts for breakfast!

The Senior High Sunday School class meets weekly during the school year...movies, discussions... and of course, doughnuts.

We watch the movies in approximately 30 minute segments and then each week discuss what we have seen in the movie.  Class starts at 10:00 am, giving you time before to come up with an answer to "How was your week?"...complete with an example of why.  It is not necessary for you to be present every Sunday.

Movies we have watched in the past have included "Taking Chance", "Signs", "Facing the Giants", "Iron Man", "Hotel Rwanda", "Contact", "United 93", "Pay It Forward", "Farenheit 911", "Dogma", "The Da Vinci Code", the BBC series "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" (not to be confused with the movie), "The Great Dictator", "Forrest Gump", "I'm Still Here", "Evan Almighty", "The Passion of the Christ", "Akeelah and the Bee", "The Majestic", "Monty Python and The Holy Grail", "Remember the Titans", "Equilibrium", "Jesus Christ Superstar", and "Monty Python's Life of Brian".
