Sunday School for Children

2010 Program Information

Children's Sunday School

We begin at 9:45am (after the 8:45am service)  and ends at 10:45am, shortly before the 11:00am service, so that families may attend the worship service of their choice.  Adult Sunday School is offered at the same time as the classes for children.

Sunday School classes are age-specific from the 2 and 3 year-old class through senior high.  A nursery is available during the Sunday School hour for children under the age of 2.

2 & 3 Year-Old Children

Children enjoy learning with loving, experienced teachers.  Themes for the spring quarter are: Jesus wants me to follow him and be his friend, I am happy that Jesus Is Alive, I am important to God.

Pre-K and Kindergarten

This class uses a curriculum entitled, "Live Big".  Students are engaged in learning through a variety of activities such as: art, storytelling, music, a DVD segment, and much more.  Join this class as they learn about Holy Week, the Resurrection, and stories about Bible characters who served God.

1st grade through 5th Grade

Students in these grades begin by meeting in the Gwinn Chapel.  Following the opening, students go to their classrooms upstairs.  This spring, the "Live Big" curriculum will teach students lessons on the last days of Jesus, the Resurrection and Jesus's days following the resurrection.  The theme for May is: We believe that each of us can serve God.

Middle School and High School

Middle school youth:  This quarter's lessons will come from a book entitled "Facing Your Giants" by Max Lucado.  Students will discuss challenges in their lives and how they will use their faith to conquer them.

The DVD for study this quarter is Hotel for Dogs.

High school youth: Movie and Discussion. Movie TBA

Larchmont United Methodist Preschool
The Larchmont United Methodist Church Preschool ("LUMPS") has been an educational ministry of LUMC for five decades. The school offers a program in a Christian environment that is consistent with established principles of childhood education. Confidence and readiness for further education are promoted within an ethical context.  Membership in the church is by no means required to attend: the school is open to all children regardless of race or religion.

Other Stuff for Families

LUMC has a number of activities for children outside of Sunday School.

We often bring the entire church family together for fellowship and enrichment. Family-oriented church suppers for kids of all ages are often accompanied by after-dinner programs.

Our church Library, open Sunday mornings and accessible on weekdays, holds a variety of religious, children's, holiday and self-help books.

During the summer, Vacation Bible School offers a series of evening sessions for children and adults. In recent years the church has recreated marketplaces of different Biblical eras, using crafts and costumes to enhance learning and worship.

Additionally, Camp Larchmont is held in the summer during the daytime for young children.

Scouting at LUMC

Both Girl and Boy Scouts meet at the church, and LUMC is the official sponsor of Troop/Pack 24, one of the oldest continuous scouting programs in this part of the country.
